LKB1: a critical mediator in suppressing initiation,
differentiation and metastasis in lung cancer

Although lung cancer is not commonly seen in patients with Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, the genetic alteration of LKB1 has been observed in a significant proportion of non-small-cell lung cancer, suggesting previously unknown tumor suppressor functions of LKB1. A recent breakthrough demonstrated that LKB1 suppresses lung tumorigenesis by influencing tumor initiation, differentiation and metastasis.
