A recent study by Murray, et al (2008), has examined regional CNS activation employing a task assessing reward expectation in subjects with psychosis and matched controls. Although reward prediction error was not distinguishable between these groups, there were significant differences in activation measures of regions involved in assigning salience to stimuli. These findings are consistent with pathological cognitive processing related to a lack of, or inappropriate attribution of salience.
